PACIFIC LOG HOMES LTD. has been in business since 1976 and is still under its original ownership, shipping log homes across Canada, throughout the U.S.A., Europe, and to Asia. We custom build to meet each customer's individual lifestyle and requirements.

Our thirty acre pre-building site is located in Lone Butte. B.C.. Canada. We take pride in the fact that all our homes are built at our own plant, and that we do not sublet log work out to other "would-be" builders. Five permanently mounted electric 82 ft. tower cranes provide for efficient handling of the logs. The cranes enable us to work on ten or twelve buildings at one time.

The full length spruce, pine, fir or cedar logs we use are a minimum of 12"mean diameter. They are winter cut, air dried, and hand peeled. Each log is scribed to fit the log below and a "wedge" notch is used on the corners. Our wedge notch has been found to be far superior to the "saddle" (or, round) notch used by most hand-hewn log builders. The wedge notch provides for an extremely tight draft and water-resistant notch.

It takes approximately six to eight weeks to construct a log shell at our plant. The logs are then tagged, loaded onto trucks, tarped, strapped and transported to our customer's building site where the log shell is reassembled in two or three days, depending on the size and complexity of the building.

Our log shell package consists of:

- graded logs

- log walls with window and door openings cut out and key-ways cut

- log ridge poles, purlins and posts

- log beams and log floor joists supporting second floor

- log stairs

- log railing and picket material (supplied only) for stairs, loft, balconies and decks

- log trusses (decorative or structural)

- archways and  log ends, curled and chamfered

- thru-bolt and electrical chases drilled as required

- tension springs for thru-bolts

- log walls slots cut for interior framed partitions

- log ridge poles, purlins and top wall logs flattened to accept roofing materials

- log shell sprayed with a fungicide

- trucking to customer's site

- crane required for reassembly of log shell

Our package price includes the services of a technical advisor during the reassembly of the log shell on your building site. You would be required to provide five people (at least two with carpentry experience and the remainder laborers), after which you, or a contractor hired by yourself, would take over and complete the building.

The sample of plans on our Web Site are to give you some idea of what has been done with logs. A set of blueprints for any of the samples may be purchased at a cost of $150.00, with the exception of plan #427 which costs $200.00. However, if you are like most of our customers and your interest is in a custom designed home, we suggest that you sketch out your ideas on a piece of paper and then send us your sketch, (with dimensions), so that we may give you an estimate of the cost for the log work involved.

Most people have a budget that determines the size of home that they build. With this in mind, you should consider the following when sketching your plans:

- based on main floor dimensions, the cost of the log work
will usually be somewhere between $30.00 and $45.00 per square foot

- construction costs for a completely finished home vary widely, depending on
how much of the work you plan to do yourself, the cost of labour in your area,
how you plan to finish the interior, etc. However, on the average, total construction
costs run 4 to 5 times the price of the basic log shell package

-  in general, a log home will cost about 10% to 20% more than a custom framed home

Once you have roughly determined the cost of your proposed log home, the next step is to have us draw up a set of blueprints for you based on your sketch. This will enable you to arrive at the final cost of the building. Our designers are well experienced in the construction of log buildings and will assist in incorporating your ideas into a plan of your own. Custom designed plans start at 95¢/square foot. When you place your order with PACIFIC LOG HOMES LTD., the cost of the plans drawn through us will be reimbursed.
